IGNITE opens its Programming and Game Design extracurricular activities to Latin America

2022 has arrived and it is no surprise to anyone that the new generations have gotten closer to technology than ever and the quarantine that we have recently experienced has only accelerated this approach. Online extracurricular classes and courses have become an everyday thing for the little ones in the house and have evolved to be a fundamental part of the current educational process.

That is why since 2020 in Ignite Serious Play We decided to embark on the adventure of taking our extracurricular activities of Programming and Game Design to boys and girls from all over Spain, adapting our face-to-face methodologies to virtual classrooms with the tool Minecraft Education Edition as main ally. During these two years full of learning we have validated that the IGNITE method, in which we encourage students' innate curiosity, has worked wonders, making it clear that online children's programming is here to stay.

What benefits do online classes with the IGNITE method offer?

1. We integrate technology as a daily ally:

In Ignite Serious Play's online extracurricular activities, we motivate students to learn to use their computer as more than just a source of entertainment, as we provide them with the tools and knowledge necessary to go from being consumers to creators of technology. Through platforms such as Minecraft Education EditionScratch y Makecode Arcade, we promote the development of their creativity and technical skills (STEAM), so that they create their own video games, stories and worlds.

2. We promote learning through play

Our methodology is based on exploring the innate curiosity of the little ones so that they acquire all these key learnings through play and experimentation. We understand that the game (and by extension educational video games like Minecraft Education) is an excellent tool to maintain their motivation and help them better integrate all types of concepts. That is why we are committed to gamification as a fundamental element in the design of our projects. All our online extracurricular activities have been carefully thought out and planned with a gamified format with playful dynamics (missions, badges, progress) so that the learning experience is more entertaining, fun and digestible for the little ones.

3. We develop skills that prepare students for the future

Our online extracurricular activities, with a maximum of ten students per classroom, not only encourage the learning of technological tools but also focus on the development of so-called soft skills (empathy, leadership, teamwork, patience, creativity), to prepare students of today into the entrepreneurs and innovators of tomorrow. Therefore, in these extracurricular Programming and Game Design courses, students acquire skills and knowledge that will allow them to be more competitive in the digital age and at school. All while having fun producing their own video games, applications and 3D worlds.

4. All classes are taught by high-level professionals

The teachers of all our online extracurricular activities have a high-level technical background (engineers, technologists, specialists, etc.) and great experience in the pedagogical area, in addition to having been previously trained in the IGNITE method, so we can ensure that all students' doubts, concerns and suggestions will be resolved with accuracy, kindness and the greatest of patience. The boys couldn't be in better hands!

5. A national success points to internationality

Since we began our online activities, more than 12.000 students from all corners of Spain have participated in the great proposal offered by the IGNITE method. From extracurricular activities in the afternoons (one hour, once a week), to online programming classes for schools and educational centers, to useful vacations, we have achieved significant success locally, which is why we have decided to extend our activities to the Latin American public by 2022.

With great excitement, we want to announce the opening of our first activity outside of Spain, Minecraft Easter CAMP, a four-day “virtual camp” for children ages 7 to 12 from all over Latin America, in which we propose challenges of creativity, programming, storytelling and more, during the week of April 11 to 14, 2022 (Holy Week ), all accompanied by first-class professionals, who will guide the experience and make it unforgettable for the little ones in the home. If you are interested in this activity, you can read more and sign up by visiting the following link.

In short, IGNITE online extracurricular classes and activities help boys and girls prepare for the future, developing the skills that will be key in the coming years on a personal and professional level, while having fun, learning and developing as digital citizens.
