Extracurricular courses 2017-18

In the extracurricular robotics activities I and II last year we worked on the Leonardo da Vinci machines project. The largest, those in robotics III, developed projects related to global goals, using Mindstorms.

In the first case, we tried to teach children to mechanize and be aware that Leonardo da Vinci's inventions did not have motors. But thanks to the gear mechanisms we had previously worked on in class, they could work. They learned to work in project format.

In the second case they had to build robots with Mindstorms, which would help achieve the different global goals of the UN. They had to create their inventions through Design thinking.

Our methodology is based on Design Thinking, a tool that is recently used in companies, to promote innovation effectively and successfully. It is an organized way of solving problems, focused on the design process and leaving the final product for the last creation process. This process allows team members to work together and in a multidisciplinary way, since different skills are needed.
The first step to take in Design Thinking is to search, investigate and discover, in order to know very well what the topic is about. The next step is to start designing the machine through drawings and lists of materials. Once you have everything, you can proceed to assembly. The trial and error part is very important to end up finding the final assembly.

Both the Leonardo Da Vinci project and the Global Goals project were projects with very ambitious challenges that were difficult but ended up being successful with the help of the robotics extracurricular instructors.
Additionally, during the creation process our students collaborated online with Ignite students from different schools, along with international schools.

During the last month, once the project was finished and in some schools, drone programming and other more recreational activities were introduced, such as creating a sumo player fight. Machines were also created to draw mandalas, it could be done both with Mindstorms and with simple and motorized Lego machines.

At Ignite we say goodbye to our students this year, after an entire course they bring us many memories, many challenges completed and we have learned many new things. We hope that you rest during the summer and that we will see each other again in the next course with our batteries recharged. We are not closing at the moment and we are preparing for the summer camp and the following year.
