Project-based learning

The world has been changing generation after generation. The same technological revolution has been implanting in us all kinds of customs that have led us to live in a more accelerated way; Even the way we develop is different from how our ancestors did. We can say that our minds have evolved. Since childhood, the curiosity to learn a little about everything has made us immerse ourselves in the world of knowledge and now it is the project based learning which seems to be wanting to make us take another step forward.

At an educational level, teaching methods have also been making impressive leaps, with more and more educational establishments teaching their classes in a more didactic way, notably capturing the difficult attention of their students. One of the dusted methods (since it is not a new concept) is the project-based learning.

What is project based learning?

PBL, for its acronym in English, is one of the many forms of teaching that exist today, but unlike the majority, this model is based on the creation of real projects.

This model questions a real situation in the environment based strictly on your area of study, defines a problem and leads to healthy competition with other students, comparing proposals that lead to a resolution of the conflict.

What is this type of learning looking for?

This methodology focuses on strategies that lead students to face all types of situations that they can observe in their daily lives and in which they can get involved to reach a specific solution. It completely breaks any paradigm, leaving behind that passive way of learning boxed in a classroom. On the contrary, it leads the student to massively active participation.

The idea of this methodology project based learning is to demonstrate that each brain represents a unique universe or world that must be actively developed by its bearer. Here the student takes complete control of his or her way of learning by building knowledge of it in a social way.

Characteristics of project-based learning.

  • Involves the student in a real problem in their environment
  • Offers the opportunity to investigate on your own and come to your own conclusions
  • Develop skills from interaction with society and conflict
  • Learn the importance of teamwork
  • Allows shared knowledge between parties involved
  • Use of all types of cognitive and environmental tools
  • Total independence to investigate and gather information
  • Projects can last up to a year
  • It may include the creation of a novel or necessary product.
  • Leads the student to a clearer understanding of reality
  • There are no teachers who determine a problem

Project-based education: Primary

It is said that from the student's first steps in primary education they must prepare for all the changes that constantly arise in their environment, therefore, a psychological restructuring of the child is invited, motivating them to develop in a creative, free, participatory environment. , where at all times you feel the need to get involved in the development of ideas spontaneously.

Project Based Learning: Secondary

For this level the student has had to reach sufficient maturity to bring his ideas to reality. It is at this level where monitoring must be constant so that they can refine all those points learned in primary school and without fear of reality begin to face low-level problems in which they may be interested to generate social change.

What are the phases to take into consideration to carry out this type of learning?

  • In the first instance, there must be a logical and real problem
  • This problem has to motivate the student
  • The student enters the questioning phase, asking: What should I know?
  • Immediately enter the investigation phase
  • Assemblies are then held where everything investigated so far is discussed.
  • The result of the assemblies invites them to solve the problem or create a product
  • The evaluation phase begins
  • Finally, dedication and experience should lead the student to start a new project.

It may not be the most innovative method, but it has been very effective for generations and is still avant-garde.
