Starting today, schools can register for the challenge Health Guardians 2030 which begins with the 2021-22 academic year. After the success of the previous edition in which nearly 800 students participated, the Pfizer Foundation, In collaboration with IGNITE Serious Play, launches a new challenge to the educational community to promote vocations STEAM and raise awareness about Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) among the young people of our country.

On this occasion the participants –students from 5th and 6th of Primary and 1st and 2nd of ESO– must find new ways to restore the planet to health and save it from climate catastrophe. Your mission will be to discover the keys that are hidden in various worlds of Minecraft Education organizing teams of 'Health Guardians' testing their scientific and technological skills in a gamified collaborative context.

In this edition, the challenges contemplate the 17 SDGs set by the 2030 Agenda, in line with the Environmental Education Action Plan for Sustainability launched last August by the Ministry of Energy Transition.

The Health Guardians 2030 project responds to the Pfizer Foundation's mission to promote science, technology and innovation and promote their approach to society. This initiative with a curricular approach aims to raise awareness among students about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); promote the scientific concerns of young people, since it allows students to bring health innovation closer to them; foster STEAM and entrepreneurship skills; and stimulate the development of interpersonal skills or soft skills, especially creativity, communication and teamwork.

Open registration for educational centers

The registration period is now open for educational centers through the page Health Guardians 2030 from the Pfizer Foundation. The first 100 centers that register will be able to participate, so the schools will be selected in strict order of registration. This edition will begin in January 2022 and will take place between February and March of the same year. A ceremony will take place in May to announce the most innovative solutions and present awards to the winning students and schools.

Great reception of the first edition

In the last edition, held between March and April 2021, more than 680 students from 22 schools participated. Participants entered the world of Minecraft Education to put themselves in the shoes of scientists and health professionals from around the world to propose solutions to a health challenge.

Among the proposals contributed by the participants, the jury, made up of experts in different fields, awarded the following teams:

•    Best scientific team: Health Mediators (Ramón y Cajal School of Madrid). This award has recognized the expertise that students have demonstrated in creating chemical compounds, solving knowledge challenges and creatively representing Life Sciences concepts.

•    Best technological equipment: The 3 Musketeers (Col·legi Montserrat de Barcelona). On this occasion, the ingenuity and precision demonstrated when solving engineering, programming and construction challenges has been valued.

•    Most innovative team: Rescue team (Col·legi Sant Gabriel de Ripollet, Barcelona). Innovation means looking to the future and developing, collaboratively, a vision to transform and improve the world in which we live. The originality of some of the future proposals that have been made to combat environmental degradation and climate change have been especially valued.

From IGNITE Serious Play we wish all the participants good luck and encourage all educational centers interested in signing up as soon as possible. The countdown to save the planet begins!
