Since this February, sustainability has been on the lips of students of all ages, excited by the prospect of saving the world. In reality, we are talking about worlds... of Minecraft but although it is a virtual environment for activities in schools, the actions that can be derived from the work carried out in Health Guardians 2030, informative project promoted by the Pfizer Foundation, without a doubt they will be very real and will generate an impact on the community.

Last November, the official presentation of the second edition of this Sustainability Educational Program was held to welcome all the mentors from the schools participating in this Minecraft activity, present the general objectives and resolve any initial questions. The presentation of the project included the participation of Silvia del Campo (Pfizer Foundation Director) and part of the Health Guardians 2030 Support and Development team of IGNITE Serious Play.

Health Guardians 2030 is a scientific and technological dissemination project that aims to raise awareness about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that derive from the 2030 Agenda approved by the United Nations in 2015.

The SDGs are a universal call to global action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people have peace and prosperity by 2030.

The Health Guardians 2030 Challenge aims, through a gamified experience, to offer a global vision of the 17 SDGs, call participants to action and bring students closer to innovation in health and sustainability by promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) skills, in addition to also encouraging entrepreneurship and teamwork skills. The objective is that learning about the SDGs is an activity in schools that becomes a rewarding and motivating experience. All of this, in a playful context, with an innovative proposal integrated into the virtual world of Minecraft Education that undoubtedly motivates students enormously.

During the day Silvia del Campo explained to us how the Pfizer Foundation has had a mission for 20 years to bring innovation and science closer to society and it is from this mission that challenges arise such as Health Guardians 2030, which also aims to be a project to support scientific dissemination and raise awareness about the importance of health and well-being in the context of the SDGs.

Heath Guardians 2030 Challenge Structure

The challenge has its starting point in the year 2030: the Earth has reached its limit and if solutions are not found, humanity will have to start from scratch on Mars. Luckily, in that decade, the Health Guardians are elite scientists and technologists and great influencers around the world and their example is followed by millions of people. The mission of our boys and girls, the new Guardians, will be to explore the worlds of Minecraft Education in teams during the months of February and March and solve as many challenges as possible related to the SDGs so that the sum of small actions multiplies their impact and we manage to save ourselves.

Although the 17 SDGs are represented in the experience, during this edition we will focus on 5 SDGs so that participants can work in depth and carry out the Guardian Challenge:

  • SDG 3 Health and Wellbeing
  • SDG 4 Quality education
  • SDG 7 Affordable and clean energy
  • SDG 11 Sustainable cities
  • SDG 12 Responsible production and consumption

Finally, each school will select a Primary Education team and/or a Secondary Education team to represent the center with a Guardian Challenge that can opt for the prizes awarded by the Pfizer Foundation in this edition of the 2021-2022 course.

The Health Guardians 2030 Challenge to save the Earth and humanity has just begun, from IGNITE Serious Play we hope you enjoy the experience and we wish all the participants good luck to achieve the objectives and achieve success all together!
